Last week, we were paired into groups and began brainstorming ideas for our memo assignment. My group and I decided to write about the steam pipe issue in New York City. In 2018, an explosion occurred because of steam pipes that were poorly maintained. I’ve honestly never even heard of this until someone from my group mentioned it. But, thankfully, there were no serious injuries. However, this doesn’t mean that we can just ignore this issue. It’s important to take accidents like this seriously because it could risk people’s lives. I also found out that the explosion resulted in the release of asbestos. If there is long-term exposure to asbestos, it could lead to life-threatening issues such as lung cancer or asbestosis. The explosion must have exposed many people to this danger. 

Aside from that, my group and I submitted our draft and now we’re just waiting for feedback. I feel as though our draft is pretty strong and that we won’t have to do many revisions. My group is very helpful and it’s nice to be able to work together even though the class is asynchronous.
